Sports News: The relationship between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the popular fantasy gaming company Dream11 is now on the verge of ending. This change has come after the passage of the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025, by Parliament. After the implementation of this bill, the BCCI has made it clear that in the future they will not have any relationship with any organization that is associated with online money gaming.

Online Gaming Bill 2025

BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia has clearly stated that it is now impossible to maintain a relationship with Dream11 due to the implementation of the bill. Speaking to the media, Saikia said, "Given this situation and after the bill becomes an act, it has become difficult for us to maintain a relationship with Dream11. So we have ended this partnership and are working on future strategies, which will also include a new sponsor."

Commercial relationship between Dream11 and BCCI

Dream11 and My11Circle are among the top sponsors of the Indian cricket team and the Indian Premier League (IPL). These companies provide sponsorship of about Rs 1,000 crore to the BCCI. Notably, Dream11 had signed a title sponsor contract for Team India for 2023-2026 for US$ 44 million, i.e., about Rs 358 crore. Apart from this, Dream11 is also the official fantasy partner of the Indian Super League (ISL).

Provisions of the Online Gaming Bill

This bill clearly states that no person or company will be involved in providing, encouraging, or promoting online money gaming. This means that fantasy sports companies will face major restrictions on their promotion and business model in India. This will cause huge losses to the revenue sources of sponsors associated with online gaming.

Legal rights of Dream11

Dream11 will not have to pay any penalty despite this situation because their contract includes a provision that protects the company in case of government sanctions. This means that Dream11 will not demand any additional payment from BCCI during the remaining period of the contract.

Dream11 statement and future direction

After the bill was passed by the Parliament, Dream11 issued a statement saying, "We have always been a law-abiding company and will continue to do so. Although we believe that progressive laws are the path to development, we will respect the new bill and comply with it completely."

Impact on individual cricketers

The implementation of this bill will not only affect the relationship between BCCI and Dream11 but is also expected to have a major impact on the endorsement of fantasy gaming apps by individual cricket players. The ban on such sponsorships and promotions may limit new advertising opportunities for players.
